About this calculator

How to use Time and a Half Calculator, plus the formulas and logic behind the results.

Tool description

Time and a half pays 1.5 times the regular hourly rate for overtime hours. Optional regular hours are added at straight time.

How to use

  1. Enter your regular hourly rate.
  2. Enter overtime hours to price at 1.5×.
  3. Optionally enter regular hours for a full paycheck total.
  4. Select Calculate to view OT rate and pay.

Formulas & reference

  • OT rate = hourly rate × 1.5
  • OT pay = OT rate × OT hours
  • Regular pay = hourly rate × regular hours
  • Total pay = regular pay + OT pay

Time-and-a-half examples

  • $20 × 1.5 = $30 OT rate
  • 8 OT hours at $30 = $240
  • Regular hours stay at base rate
  • Double time would be 2.0× instead

Calculation logic

Overtime always uses a 1.5 multiplier. If regular hours are provided, straight-time pay is added to overtime pay.

Leave regular hours blank if you only need the overtime portion.
